Pliage No. 39,
acrylic on canvas,
70 x 70 cm, 2010
Françoise Pierzou
has been working since the mid-70s as a painter in border areas of constructivist and concrete art. Her work has gained renown especially through her pliages – canvases painted on the front and back and folded to display the two surfaces side by side. The pliages are a direct extension of her earlier object-like works with their distinctly spatial characteristics (rod pictures, multi-part pictures, murals).
Born and raised in Paris, Françoise Pierzou studied at the Academy of Art in Munich, where she now lives and works.
